The Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi, Nigeria has ruled in favor of the recall process against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, overturning a previous order that restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting petitions from her constituents in Kogi Central Senatorial District.

The court, in its judgment on Friday, affirmed that the recall process is constitutionally valid and aligns with the civic rights of the senator’s constituents. It urged them to exercise their rights peacefully and orderly.

The decision follows an earlier interim injunction granted on Thursday, which had temporarily barred INEC from receiving, accepting, or acting on recall petitions against Akpoti-Uduaghan. The injunction, sought by Anebe Jacob Ogirima and four others—registered voters in the district—argued that the petitions contained fraudulent signatures.

The court’s latest ruling, however, clears the way for the recall process to proceed, with the case adjourned to May 6, 2025, for further hearings.
