A newborn baby girl was miraculously rescued after being found buried alive in a farmland in Kamba, Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The discovery was made by farmer Kabiru Kamba on June 27, when he noticed an unusual ridge on his land.
Out of curiosity, Kamba investigated the mound with the help of some motorcyclists and uncovered a wrapper buried in the soil. He immediately alerted the police, who dug further and found the baby girl alive and crying, wrapped in a piece of textile.
Moved by compassion, Kamba took custody of the child, with the local government council’s approval, pending police investigations. His wife, who had recently given birth, has been breastfeeding the baby and expressed happiness in caring for her as her own. The family has planned a naming ceremony for the baby.
A team from the state’s Gender-Based Violence Technical Working Group visited Kamba to commend his heroic act and pledged to relay the situation to relevant authorities for further support. The team also donated essential items including baby clothes, diapers, powdered milk, a baby bed, mosquito net, and other necessities. Security agencies continue investigations to identify and apprehend those responsible for the incident.
