Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, officially resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Tuesday, July 2, 2025.
In a statement, Malami emphasized that his decision was driven not by anger or personal ambition but by a deep love for Nigeria and concern over the nation’s worsening challenges.
Malami lamented the country’s escalating insecurity, particularly in the North, where banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism have become rampant. He criticized the government for prioritizing politics over citizens’ safety and highlighted the dire economic situation, with soaring food prices, job losses, and growing hopelessness among the youth.
He accused the current administration of abandoning good governance, allowing appointments and policies to be dictated by political loyalty rather than national interest. Malami declared that he could no longer be part of a system that remains silent while Nigerians suffer.
Joining the ADC, Malami described the party as a platform grounded in justice, inclusion, competence, and national renewal. He expressed hope that through this coalition, Nigerians could chart a new path toward a better future.
Addressing the people of Kebbi State, Malami reaffirmed his commitment to serve and represent their interests. He called on all Nigerians to unite, rise above fear, and reclaim the nation, emphasizing that Nigeria belongs to everyone.
