Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has threatened to create a new political party in the United States should President Donald Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” become law. Musk took to his social media platform X to express strong opposition to the bill, which proposes significant tax cuts, budget increases, and cuts to healthcare and food assistance programs.
Musk criticized lawmakers who campaigned on reducing government spending but voted for the bill, saying they “should hang their heads in shame” and vowed to back primary challengers against them in the next election cycle.
“If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day,” Musk declared. He emphasized the need for an alternative to the current Democrat-Republican “uniparty” to give the American people a genuine voice.
The bill, currently under Senate consideration, is projected to add trillions to the national debt over the next decade, a move Musk strongly opposes. His call for a new party comes amid escalating tensions with Trump, following Musk’s public denouncement of the bill and a series of heated exchanges.
Musk’s proposed “America Party” aims to represent the majority of Americans who feel unrepresented by the two dominant parties. Despite his prior financial support for Trump and Republican candidates, Musk’s recent stance signals a dramatic shift in his political engagement.
The formation of a viable third party in the U.S. faces significant challenges, but Musk’s high-profile threat has reignited discussions about the country’s entrenched two-party system and the potential for new political alternatives.
