The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2024–Second Series, will commence on Friday, October 25 and run until Friday, December 20, 2024.
In a statement released by WAEC on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, it was confirmed that the examination will adopt a hybrid mode of delivery. The Council explained, “The examination will adopt the hybrid mode of delivering the examination, which implies that the objective or multiple-choice questions would be rendered on-screen and candidates would be required to give their responses on the screen, while the essay and practical questions will be rendered on-screen, but candidates would have to give their responses using the answer booklets provided.”
Additionally, candidates who wish to use the Paper and Pen mode for all their exam papers will have that option.
Registration Deadline Extended
WAEC also extended the registration deadline for the exam to Tuesday, October 29, 2024, providing more time for those yet to register. The Council added, “The ‘Walk-in-Candidate’ opportunity (for candidates who register 24 hours before the particular paper of their choice is due to be taken) will be open at the end of the registration.”

Advice for Candidates
WAEC encouraged candidates to take advantage of the various learning resources it provides. “All intending, as well as registered, candidates are advised to take advantage of the numerous learning resources provided by the Council. These include signing up on the WAEC e-Study platform, purchasing the WAEC Past Questions and Answers books, and joining other candidates to interact on the WAECKonnect platform,” the statement read.
The Council concluded by wishing all candidates success in the examination, pledging to continue exploring “technological innovations” to enhance its services.
