Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged the #EndBadGovernance protesters to end their demonstrations, asserting that their concerns have been “heard, loud and clear.” His appeal comes amid ongoing protests against government policies and economic conditions in the state.

In a statement issued by Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotsho, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the protesters for their peaceful approach, noting that they have chosen to express their grievances without resorting to violence. He acknowledged the central issue of the protest—widespread hunger—and reassured the public that both state and federal governments are addressing the problem.

Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged that while some businesses experienced a slowdown due to fears of potential violence, such fears did not materialize into actual unrest. He emphasized that Lagosians have largely opted for peaceful protest methods and underscored that the government is taking significant steps to address the economic challenges.

The governor highlighted recent federal measures aimed at alleviating food shortages, including the suspension of import duties on food items and the activation of the National Grains Reserve. He also outlined state-level initiatives, such as the return of the Sunday Markets with a 25% discount on food items, the resumption of a free medical outreach program, and a continued 25% fare reduction on public transportation.

Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude towards security agencies, community and religious leaders, and resident associations for their role in maintaining peace during the protests. He reassured Lagosians that the state remains safe and urged residents to continue their activities without fear, with security forces ensuring the protection of businesses and public spaces.

The governor’s statement reflects an effort to balance addressing public concerns with maintaining order and ensuring that ongoing economic and social support measures effectively reach those in need.
