Despite recent kidnappings in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a Department of State Services (DSS) director asserts enhanced security measures under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

Over the past 48 hours, numerous Abuja residents have been abducted from their homes by armed kidnappers, sparking concern among the populace.

The Dawaki community in Abuja was recently targeted, resulting in the abduction of at least 20 individuals. Dawaki, situated opposite the Gwarinpa Estate, a major settlement along the Abuja-Kubwa Expressway, is densely populated and home to thousands of FCT workers.

Adamu Gwary, a DSS Director, commended the improved security situation, crediting proactive measures implemented by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, since August 2023.

Gwary highlighted the decline in reported security incidents, attributing the success to community engagement initiatives and logistical support provided to security agencies by the FCT administration.

Town hall meetings organized by Wike across the six Area Councils aimed to foster community participation in addressing security concerns. Additionally, vehicles were distributed to traditional rulers to facilitate mobilization efforts in support of security operations.

Furthermore, specialized security task forces were established to combat criminal activities such as kidnapping and “one chance” scams.

While some residents express concerns over recent criminal resurgence, following previous security operations earlier in the year, Gwary remains optimistic about sustained security improvements in the FCT.

The administration’s efforts reflect a commitment to enhancing public safety and security in the nation’s capital, amidst ongoing challenges.
