Six Nigerian students from three secondary schools have received the Top in the World Outstanding Cambridge Learners Awards for their exceptional performance in the June and November 2023 Cambridge examinations. The awards were presented at the British Council Recognition and Outstanding Cambridge Learners Awards in Lagos.

The students, from Brookstone School, James Hope College, and The Ambassadors Group of Schools, achieved the highest marks globally in English as a second language (speaking endorsement). Oluwademilade David and Omaghomi Sharon from Brookstone School emerged as winners in the June 2023 series, while Obodoechi Chiedozie, Favour Chinecherem, and Fehintoluwa Erinayo from James Hope College, Lagos, and Bamidele Sharon from Ambassadors Group of Schools excelled in the November 2023 series.

The country director of Nigeria’s British Council, Lucy Pearson, congratulated the students on their outstanding achievement, stating that the awards recognize exceptional performances around the world in Cambridge examinations. Pearson noted that the students’ achievements demonstrate their hard work and dedication, and those of their teachers and parents.

The awards ceremony also celebrated the achievements of 95 students from 37 British Council partner schools who achieved the highest marks in various subjects, as well as 71 students who received Top in Nigeria awards for achieving the highest standard mark in the country for individual subjects.

The Regional Director, Sub-Saharan Africa International Education, Cambridge University, Juan Visser, congratulated the learners from Nigeria for their academic achievements, noting that the Cambridge education system is designed to help learners develop their potential. Visser encouraged the students to continue striving for excellence and pursue their dreams.

The awardees expressed their excitement and gratitude, with Oluwademilade David advising Nigerian students to put in their best efforts in their studies. The British Council and Cambridge International Examinations have partnered to recognize outstanding achievements of students from various British Council partner schools across Nigeria.
