The Federal Government has begun a two-week training programme for 150 young people in Enugu State, covering artificial intelligence, solar installation and fashion design.
The programme opened on Wednesday, 28 October, under the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy. It is coordinated by the presidential office responsible for technical, vocational and entrepreneurship education with the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
Presidential aide Dr Abiola Arogundade said the ministry would assess beneficiaries after six months and one year to track their use of the skills and equipment.
Felix Okonkwo, the ministry’s Director of Macroeconomic Analysis, said participants were selected through applications advertised on radio and social media. Beneficiaries are expected to receive equipment to help establish businesses.
The announcement marks the start of training. It does not establish that equipment has already been distributed or that participants have secured employment.
Enugu Governor Peter Mbah was represented by Budget and Planning Commissioner Chris-Roberts Ozongwu. Arogundade said earlier phases had taken place in the South-West and North-Central, with further locations planned.
