Arsenal have completed the signing of England international Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa on a long-term contract in a deal worth a reported £55 million including add-ons. The 28-year-old defender has signed a four-year deal with the option of an additional 12 months, for a fixed fee of £51m with potential £4m in add-ons.
Konsa joins the Premier League champions after six seasons at Villa, where he made 286 appearances following his move from Brentford in 2019. He was a key figure in Villa’s Europa League-winning campaign last season, playing 48 games in all competitions. The defender also featured for England at the 2026 World Cup, starting seven matches and scoring in the third-place playoff win over France, and now has 28 caps.
Speaking after the move, Konsa said: “I’m super excited. It’s a privilege to be here and can’t wait to get started. I want to keep winning, I’m hungry to win and that’s what I’m here for. It’s a proud moment for me and my family to play for one of the best teams in the world”. Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta described him as “a defender of high quality, whose athleticism, composure and tactical intelligence have established him as one of the Premier League’s most consistent performers”, adding that his versatility in central defence and at right-back will bring valuable depth.
The signing comes as Arsenal deal with defensive injuries. William Saliba faces an extended spell out with a back injury aggravated at the World Cup, while Jurrien Timber has struggled with a groin problem since March. Konsa could make his debut against his former club at Villa Park on August 31 in Monday Night Football.
