The African Democratic Congress has alleged that its derecognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission is an attempt to prevent the party from participating in the 2027 general elections.

The party said the commission’s decision, including its refusal to accept official correspondence from its leadership, creates obstacles that could hinder its ability to meet electoral deadlines.

According to the ADC, the development places the party in a difficult position, as electoral laws require strict timelines for submitting candidate information and conducting internal processes ahead of elections.

The party argued that by suspending engagement with its leadership amid an ongoing legal dispute, the commission is effectively creating conditions that could lead to its exclusion from the electoral process.

ADC officials described the situation as an administrative barrier, warning that it could result in artificial non-compliance with electoral requirements.

The party has called on the commission to reverse its position and ensure a level playing field for all political parties ahead of the next general elections.
