The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, also known as Abbas Ajakaiye, the founder and General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, for allegedly masterminding multiple shipments of illicit drugs from Ghana into Nigeria.

The arrest was made on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his church in the Okun Ajah area of Lekki, Lagos.

Olasele had been on the run for months and fled to Ghana in June to evade arrest after operatives linked him to two significant seizures of cannabis 200kg recovered at Okun Ajah Beach on June 4, and 700kg found in his delivery van on July 6.

NDLEA officers waited for him to finish the Sunday worship service before arresting him as he stepped out of the church premises.

In his statement, Prophet Adefolusho admitted to ferrying the illicit consignments through waterways from Ghana into Nigeria and acknowledged fleeing abroad after escaping arrest twice in recent months.

The NDLEA continues its crackdown on drug trafficking, also arresting other suspects and seizing large quantities of cannabis and other drugs in states including Lagos, Nasarawa, Kano, Gombe, and Edo.

The NDLEA chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers for their diligence and pledged continued efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks across Nigeria.

This arrest highlights the ongoing challenges of cross-border drug trafficking and demonstrates the agency’s resolve to enforce drug laws firmly.
