Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM1, faces potential legal action by ValueJet Airlines and possible inclusion on Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) ‘no-fly’ list after an incident at Abuja airport on August 5, 2025.
During boarding for Flight VK201 from Abuja to Lagos, KWAM1 was reportedly carrying a gold flask containing alcohol, which he refused to disclose or surrender to ground staff as required by aviation security protocols.
When confronted, he became confrontational, poured the flask’s contents on the pilot and security personnel, and obstructed the aircraft, severely disrupting flight operations.
Captain Ranti, pilot in command, had to intervene directly to manage the situation, but KWAM1 continued to block movement near the plane, delaying the flight’s departure until security personnel forcibly removed him.
The incident triggered a significant delay and posed safety risks to passengers, crew, and airport staff. Subsequently, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority suspended two ValueJet pilots for breaching pre-departure safety clearance protocols in the rush to avoid further delays caused by KWAM1’s behavior.
The NCAA is considering punitive actions against KWAM1, including placement on a ‘no-fly list’ typically reserved for individuals posing security threats, which would severely restrict his ability to travel by air in Nigeria.
ValueJet is also contemplating suing the musician over his disruptive conduct that nearly jeopardized the flight’s operation.
Efforts to reach KWAM1 for comment were unsuccessful, with calls and inquiries through his aides going unanswered up to the time of reporting.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed that KWAM1 violated airport security protocols by refusing to comply with instructions regarding prohibited liquids and subsequently demonstrated unruly behavior that disrupted airport operations.
This case highlights ongoing challenges in enforcing aviation safety regulations and ensuring compliance, regardless of passenger status, to maintain operational integrity and passenger safety at Nigerian airports.
