President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid an emotional tribute to the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, describing him as “more than a royal father” and someone whose counsel and wisdom deeply impacted his life. In a message shared Sunday via his verified X account, President Tinubu recalled the personal significance of losing both former President Muhammadu Buhari and the revered monarch within hours, acknowledging the profound loss to the nation and to himself.

Reflecting on his presence at the monarch’s eighth-day Fidau prayers in Ijebu-Ode, Tinubu highlighted Oba Adetona’s unique qualities: “Kabiyesi was more than a royal father to me. He was a confidante, a guide, and a man of truth whose wisdom never failed to steady those who sought it.” The President praised the late monarch’s legacy, citing over 65 years of rulership marked by integrity, candour, courage, and a selfless commitment to his people.

“In over six decades on the throne, he ruled with rare dignity, candour, and courage, always putting the people first with an unmistakable sense of duty,” Tinubu wrote, emphasizing the vacuum now left within the Yoruba traditional institution following the monarch’s passing. He described Oba Adetona’s leadership as one whose voice and generosity will resonate well beyond Ijebuland.

Concluding his tribute, President Tinubu offered prayers for the late Oba Sikiru Adetona, seeking eternal rest for him and comfort for all those in mourning: “May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus and comfort all who mourn him.”
