American singer Chris Brown, 36, has been granted bail of £5 million (approximately $6.7 million) by a UK court following his arrest over an alleged assault that occurred in 2023. The Grammy-winning artist was taken into custody shortly after arriving in the UK on May 15, 2025, ahead of his scheduled tour.

Brown faces charges of grievous bodily harm with intent related to an incident at the Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district on February 19, 2023. Prosecutors allege that Brown attacked music producer Abraham Diaw by striking him multiple times with a tequila bottle, followed by punching and kicking. Surveillance footage and witness accounts reportedly support these allegations. Brown has not yet entered a plea.

Initially denied bail, Brown was released on Wednesday under strict conditions, including surrendering his passport when not traveling and paying the bail amount. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 20, 2025, between concert dates in Cardiff and London. Brown’s friend, Omololu Akinlolu (aka HoodyBaby), has also been charged in connection with the same incident.

The bail decision allows Brown to proceed with his international tour, which is set to begin on June 8 in Amsterdam and includes multiple European dates before moving to North America. Failure to comply with bail conditions could result in forfeiture of the £5 million bond.

This case adds to Brown’s history of legal issues, including a 2009 felony assault conviction related to domestic violence against singer Rihanna. As of this report, Brown has not publicly commented on the current charges or bail conditions.
