Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo declared Thursday that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has formally adopted President Bola Tinubu as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election. The announcement came during President Tinubu’s working visit to Anambra, where both leaders shared the stage at Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.
“Progressives are working together,” Governor Soludo stated, emphasizing the ideological alignment between APGA and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The endorsement marks a significant political realignment in Nigeria’s southeast, traditionally an opposition stronghold.
Political analysts view this development as a strategic consolidation ahead of the next general elections, with APGA’s structure potentially bolstering APC’s outreach in the region. The president’s working visit included infrastructure inspections and closed-door meetings with southeast stakeholders.
Opposition parties have yet to respond to the announcement, which could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape as campaigning for 2027 gradually begins. Observers note this represents Tinubu’s first major endorsement from outside his party since assuming office in 2023.
