According to a statement signed by his eldest child and first male son, Prince Lanre Rotimi, the monarch died on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, after a brief illness at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, in Ondo State.

Oba Rotimi was appointed Olu of Ijigba by the then Deji of Akure, Oba Adebiyi Adesida, on February 6, 2012, and was later upgraded to crown Oba on August 24, 2022, by the then Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu.

Seye Adetunmbi, a friend of the family, paid tribute to Oba Rotimi, describing him as a fine gentleman and a remarkable man of style.

Adetunmbi recalled his experience working under Oba Rotimi’s tutelage in investment banking in 1990, where he handled a major divestiture of Ondo-State Government in Araromi Aiyesan Oil Palm PLC. He praised Oba Rotimi’s technical and meticulous approach, saying it had a lasting impact on his professional development.

Condolences have been pouring in for the family of the late monarch, with many describing him as a brilliant and quintessential technocrat.

His legacy is expected to be remembered for years to come, particularly in the Ijigba community, where he served as Olujigba.

Beyond his achievements in the corporate world, Oba Luyi Rotimi was revered for his wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to the socio-economic advancement of Ijigba and the greater Akure South region.

Under his leadership, efforts were made to foster youth empowerment, attract investment to the community, and strengthen traditional institutions through dialogue and reform.

He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, service, and mentorship that touched countless lives across both the public and private sectors.

The people of Ijigba, Ondo State, and Nigeria at large mourn the passing of a monarch whose life was defined by dignity, excellence, and a profound sense of responsibility.
