Lagos transport leader Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, has fired back at social media critics who mocked his English pronunciation, turning the spotlight on his life achievements instead.
A viral video showed the Lagos State Parks and Garages Management Committee chairman responding defiantly after being ridiculed for saying “Kundus” instead of “kudos” during a public speech. Rather than apologize, the former bus conductor highlighted his rags-to-riches journey and family success.
“English is not my mother tongue, Yoruba is,” Oluomo declared. “They said I said ‘Kundus’ – is Kundus not my son? You’re educated; what have you achieved? Let them compete with my children. My kids are American and British citizens. I worked hard to reach this level.”
The transport union boss emphasized that his lack of formal education didn’t stop him from building influence and securing international opportunities for his family. His remarks have sparked mixed reactions online, with some applauding his confidence and others maintaining criticism of his leadership style.
Oluomo’s response underscores ongoing debates about elitism, language proficiency versus real-world success, and social mobility in Nigeria’s class-conscious society.
