Former National Security Adviser (NSA), Gen. Aliyu Gusau, recently hosted political figures from the North Central geopolitical zone who are pushing for a consensus on power shifting to the region in the 2027 general elections.

The delegation, led by Prof. K’sto Nghargbu, later met with the Onah of Abaji, His Royal Highness Alhaji Musa Baba Yunusa, and Senator John Danboyi as part of their consultations.

Prof. Nghargbu, speaking on behalf of the North Central Renaissance Movement, stated that the group aims to engage critical stakeholders across Nigeria to secure the presidency or vice presidency for the region in the next election.

He emphasized that the North Central zone has long been politically marginalized, having been denied the top leadership positions since Nigeria’s independence and the return to democracy in 1999.

“We are strengthening advocacy for the return of the presidency to the zone through high-level consultations with prominent figures in all six geo-political zones,” said Nghargbu, a professor of medical geology.

He called for national cooperation, stating, “The zone has what it takes to lead rather than to be led all the time. The future should begin with the 2027 federal political arrangement.”

The movement seeks to position the North Central as a key contender in Nigeria’s leadership equation, aligning it with other zones that have previously produced presidents and vice presidents.
