Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has cemented his place in the country’s football history, surpassing legendary forward Segun Odegbami on the Super Eagles’ all-time goal scorers list. Osimhen achieved the milestone on Friday, netting his 24th international goal during Nigeria’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.

The Galatasaray striker found the back of the net after expertly converting a lofted free kick from Ademola Lookman, giving Nigeria the lead with a precise touch at the far post.

With this feat, Osimhen moves to second place in Nigeria’s all-time top scorers list, edging closer to Rashidi Yekini’s long-standing record of 37 goals.

Osimhen, playing in his first match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, reached his 24-goal mark in just 39 appearances for Nigeria. His historic moment follows his equalizing goal against Benin Republic in a 2025 AFCON qualifier last November, which had drawn him level with Odegbami.

The 26-year-old has been in stellar form this season, scoring 20 goals and providing four assists in 20 Super Lig matches for league leaders Galatasaray. Across all competitions, he has netted 26 goals and contributed five assists in 30 games.

Osimhen’s record-breaking goal further solidifies his reputation as one of Nigeria’s greatest-ever strikers, with fans now eager to see if he can break Yekini’s legendary record in the coming years.
