The National Examinations Council (NECO) has granted accreditation to additional schools in Bata, Equatorial Guinea, allowing more students to sit for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, announced the development in a statement on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, emphasizing that the accreditation follows a thorough evaluation process.
Accreditation Process and Standards
The NECO Accreditation Team conducted an extensive assessment of the schools, inspecting classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer labs, workshops, examination halls, sports facilities, and security measures. The adequacy of teachers and adherence to continuous assessment (CA) guidelines were also reviewed.
“After a thorough evaluation and comprehensive assessment, the schools were granted full SSCE and full BECE accreditation status,” Sani stated.
Expanding Global Reach
The accreditation of additional schools in Equatorial Guinea reinforces NECO’s commitment to expanding access to quality education beyond Nigeria’s borders.
“The accreditation of additional foreign schools is a testament to NECO’s commitment to providing quality education and assessment beyond the shores of Nigeria,” Sani noted.
With this development, NECO examinations are now conducted in Benin Republic, Niger Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Equatorial Guinea, and Saudi Arabia. The expansion aligns with NECO’s goal of becoming a leading examination body in Africa, offering opportunities for both Nigerian students and foreign nationals to benefit from its internationally recognized certification.
