Police operatives have taken control of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Rivers State, following a leadership change in the party.

The new leadership, loyal to Governor Siminialayi Fubara, had planned to take over the office, but police deployment prevented access to the facility.

The crisis began with a State High Court injunction restraining the former chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka, and his executives from acting on behalf of the party.

In response, party stakeholders held a congress and appointed a caretaker committee, with Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor as the acting chairman.

Ewor, also the Chairman of the Governing Council of Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, will lead the party alongside other newly appointed executives until valid congresses are conducted.

The new leadership aims to bring stability and leadership to the party, which has been plagued by internal conflicts and power struggles.

The police deployment was reportedly a precautionary measure to prevent clashes at the facility.

The new leadership has chosen an alternative location to interface with party members until they gain access to the state office.
