Veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing “anti-democratic forces” of hijacking the opposition party. In a scathing resignation letter to his Edo State ward chairman, the former presidential aspirant announced his immediate defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“It’s honorable to abandon the carcass of PDP to these hijackers,” wrote Momodu, who joined the party in 2021. His move comes barely 24 hours after ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s high-profile exit from the PDP, accelerating the opposition’s realignment ahead of 2027 polls.

Political observers note the twin resignations cripple PDP’s rebuilding efforts, particularly in Edo where Momodu had grassroots influence. The ADC has now emerged as the prime beneficiary of the crisis, absorbing two major PDP figures within days.

PDP leaders scrambled to contain the fallout, with National Chairman Umar Damagum insisting the party remains united. However, insiders reveal more defections are imminent as factional battles intensify.

Momodu’s Ovation Media Group confirmed he will assume ADC membership immediately and participate in coalition-building efforts. The ADC National Chairman hailed the development as “a liberation movement for true democrats.”
