The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has repatriated Zimbabwean Bishop Eben Nhiwatawi for violating immigration protocols. According to a statement signed by the NIS Public Relations Officer, DCI KT Udo, in Abuja on Wednesday, the bishop was repatriated on August 24, 2024.
Bishop Nhiwatawi arrived in Nigeria on August 21, 2024, with a Tourist Visa (F5A) meant solely for tourism. However, he was found to be participating in the Methodist Church leadership election process, which breached the conditions of his visa as outlined in the Nigeria Visa Policy 2024.
“In light of the above, the Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service, with Ministerial approval, has ordered his immediate repatriation from the country,” the statement read.
The NIS emphasized its commitment to preserving national security and warned against violations of immigration laws, stating, “The Service remains committed to monitoring the activities of foreigners to uphold the country’s National Security.”
While the NIS supports the lawful inflow of Foreign Direct Investment and encourages business and social activities as key facilitators of economic growth, it will not tolerate any breach of immigration laws.
