The media team of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has confirmed that he visited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters but was not interrogated by officials. According to a statement from the team, Bello visited the EFCC office alongside his successor, Usman Ododo, in response to an invitation extended by the Commission.
The statement, issued by the Director of the media team, Ohiare Michael, emphasized, “Earlier today, we reported the voluntary visit of former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, to the EFCC office to honour the Commission’s invitation. The EFCC did not, however, interrogate him as officials told him he could leave.”
This visit comes amidst earlier reports from EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, who denied that Bello was in custody, reaffirming that the former governor remained wanted by the Commission. Despite this, Bello’s media team reiterated his respect for the rule of law, stating, “The former Governor decided to honour the invitation to clear his name as he has nothing to hide and nothing to fear.”
The media team also pointed out that the case involving Yahaya Bello had been in court, where he had been represented by his legal team at every hearing.
