After a week of intensive search efforts, the wreckage of an Eastwind Aviation Sikorsky helicopter, which crashed with eight people on board, has been located in the Atlantic Ocean near Bonny Finima, Rivers State. The helicopter, which went down one week ago, was discovered approximately 0.775 nautical miles from the FPSO Adoon, at a depth of 42 meters, with coordinates at Latitude 04° 13.634′ N and Longitude 008° 19.442′ E.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed the discovery late Thursday, stating, “Locating the wreckage is a critical milestone in our efforts to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident.” Captain Alex Badeh Jr., Director General of NSIB, praised the recovery team for their commitment and collaboration, which led to the successful retrieval of the helicopter’s tail boom.

Badeh added, “The dedication and cooperation shown by all involved parties have been exceptional, and we are determined to conduct a thorough investigation to provide clarity and closure to the families of those affected.”

Search and recovery teams are continuing efforts to retrieve additional parts of the helicopter to facilitate a comprehensive investigation. The NSIB reiterated its commitment to working alongside both national and international partners to enhance transportation safety across Nigeria. Additional updates on the recovery will be released as the operation progresses.
