A woman has been arrested in Delta State for allegedly drugging a nursing mother and stealing her two-month-old baby.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olufemi Abaniwonda, confirmed the incident yesterday during a briefing in Asaba. He said the baby had been rescued and safely returned to the parents.
According to the police, the suspect, identified as Mrs. Joy, had accompanied the 20-year-old mother on a business trip from Koko to Warri on February 16, 2025. During the journey, she reportedly gave the mother juice laced with drugs, causing her to fall asleep. She then took the baby and disappeared.
The mother reported the incident to the police on April 7, prompting an investigation. Officers from the Ekpan Police Station tracked down the 49-year-old suspect, who later confessed to the crime.
“The baby, now five months old, has been rescued and reunited with his parents,” Abaniwonda said. “The suspect is in custody, and investigations are ongoing.”
Police did not disclose the motive behind the abduction but assured the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated.
