A woman identified as Miss Ijeoma Franca has been apprehended while attempting to smuggle a substance suspected to be Indian hemp into Kuje Medium Security Prisons in Abuja. The contraband was hidden inside a carton of biscuits and was discovered during a routine search by prison officials.

In a statement on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Prison Command, Humphery Chukwuedo, revealed that during interrogation, Franca claimed she had been engaged by a man named Daniel to deliver the package to his brother, Miracle Amechi, an inmate at the prison. The package contained biscuits, milk, milo, clothing, and cash, but Franca insisted she was unaware of the hidden drug.

“She claimed that she was ignorant of the real contents of the carton of spicy biscuit,” Chukwuedo explained.

Following her arrest, Franca was handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and action.

Controller of Prisons for the FCT Command, Sylvester Nwakuche, warned visitors against smuggling hard drugs into the prison, emphasizing that such actions undermine the efforts toward the rehabilitation and reformation of inmates. He called for public support to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the prison system.
