The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nigeria, Nyesom Wike, has firmly dismissed rumors of his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), vowing to remain and confront the ongoing internal crisis within the party.
During a media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday to mark his first year in office as FCT Minister, Wike addressed speculations of a potential crossover to the All Progressives Congress (APC). These speculations have persisted since his appointment by President Bola Tinubu, despite Wike being a PDP member.
“I have told you that I don’t run away from a fight. I will stay there and fight it out. Who am I going to run from? The vampires?” Wike asserted, making it clear that he has no intention of leaving the party, even amidst the tensions with his successor as Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The rift between Wike and Fubara has escalated the internal wrangling within the PDP, with both leaders vying for control of the party in Rivers State. The conflict has also led to divisions within the state’s House of Assembly.
Referring to the situation in the assembly, Wike criticized the actions of a few lawmakers, stating, “It is impunity and madness for three lawmakers to constitute the Rivers assembly and pass the state budget. The Rivers house of assembly must work.”
Wike’s resolve to stay and fight within the PDP signals his continued influence and determination to address the party’s challenges head-on.
