The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Nigeria , Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land title of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat in Abuja over the party’s failure to pay ground rent for 20 years.
The revocation was conveyed in a letter dated March 13, 2025, and signed by the FCT Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze. According to the letter, the PDP failed to settle its annual ground rent obligations from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025, despite repeated notices and publications by the FCT Administration.
“In view of your continued contravention of the terms and conditions of the Right of Occupancy by failing to pay the annual ground rents due on the property, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has exercised his powers under the Land Use Act to revoke your rights, interests, and privileges over the plot,” the letter read.
The FCT Administration further stated that it would take immediate possession of the property until all outstanding bills are cleared.
The development comes amid ongoing political tensions, with some observers speculating that the move may have political undertones, given Wike’s history with the PDP and his current role as an APC-appointed minister. However, the FCT Administration insists that the revocation is part of a broader crackdown on defaulters, noting that thousands of other property owners have also had their land titles revoked for similar reasons.
