Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory in Nigeria, has responded to circulating health rumors, categorically denying claims that he collapsed or was flown abroad for medical treatment. During an inspection tour of ongoing projects in Abuja on Thursday, Wike firmly rejected the allegations, attributing them to mischief-makers seeking to divert attention from more pressing matters.

The former governor of Rivers State clarified that the rumors about his health were fabricated to distract from recent allegations made by George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service in Rivers State. Nwaeke accused suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, of conspiring to destroy the Rivers State House Assembly Complex. Wike suggested that the health rumors were intentionally timed to overshadow the growing controversy surrounding these claims.

On March 28, 2025, Nwaeke alleged that he had witnessed Fubara handing a bag of money to Ehie with the intention of burning down the Assembly Complex. Both Fubara and Ehie have denied the accusations, with Ehie asserting that Nwaeke was under some form of influence when making the claims. In response to the allegations, Ehie stated that his lawyer had been instructed to initiate a defamation lawsuit against Nwaeke.
