Chidimma Adetshina, the newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, has disclosed the reasons behind her withdrawal from the Miss South Africa pageant, citing a lack of support from South Africans. In a recent interview with Silverbird TV, Adetshina explained that she felt unaccepted due to her Igbo name, despite being born and raised in South Africa for 23 years.

She described her experience as “horrible and heartbreaking,” saying that many South Africans did not view her as “South African enough” because of her Nigerian heritage. The backlash led her to step down from the competition just before the finale. However, she has embraced her Nigerian roots and is proud to represent Nigeria on the global stage as Miss Universe Nigeria 2024.

Adetshina will now represent Nigeria at the upcoming Miss Universe competition in Mexico.
