
In a visit to the front lines in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria on Monday, July 17, 2024, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, commended the enduring sacrifices of Nigerian troops battling terrorism and banditry.
Speaking during an Eid-El-Kabir celebration, General Lagbaja acknowledged the heavy toll of the conflict, noting, “It has been a year of unquantifiable sacrifices in blood and treasure.”
General Lagbaja praised the troops’ dedication and resilience despite the harsh realities of warfare, stating, “Many of them still bear the physical and emotional scars of battle.” He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support of the Nigerian Army.
In his remarks, he appreciated the collaborative efforts of the Minister of Defence, Minister of State for Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, and other Service Chiefs in combating the nation’s adversaries.
During his visit, the Army chief also inaugurated several projects at Maimalari Cantonment, including the Headquarters of 47 Engineers Brigade Office complex, Major General YM Abubakar Drive, and a rehabilitated connecting road.
