The U.S. Mission in Nigeria has reiterated that visa application fees remain non-refundable and non-transferable. In a statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Mission acknowledged the frustration of many Nigerians whose applications are denied after paying significant fees.
The Embassy clarified that visa fees cover the administrative cost of processing applications regardless of the outcome and are not guarantees of visa approval. Applicants are advised to prepare their submissions carefully, follow all application guidelines, and use the free resources available on the U.S. Embassy’s official website to improve their chances of success.
Complaints on social media about the financial burden of visa applications, especially when denied without reusing the fee, prompted the Embassy’s clarification. The fees are intended strictly to cover processing costs and cannot be refunded or transferred to another person.
The U.S. Embassy emphasizes that applicants should plan carefully and understand that payment of the visa fee does not ensure visa issuance.
