Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr was crowned the FIFA Men’s Player of the Year on Monday during the FIFA Best Awards ceremony held in Doha.
The 24-year-old Brazilian received the prestigious prize in recognition of his outstanding performances during Real Madrid’s successful 2023-24 campaign, where the club clinched both the Champions League and LaLiga titles. Vinicius contributed significantly with 24 goals and 11 assists across all competitions.
The announcement comes after Vinicius and his Real Madrid teammates boycotted this year’s Ballon d’Or event, which saw Manchester City’s Rodri take the top honor.
In the Women’s category, Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmatí won the Women’s Player of the Year award for the second year in a row, further solidifying her position as one of the world’s best in the sport.
