Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has extended a public apology to prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, over comments he made regarding bribery allegations involving crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.
The apology came during a House of Representatives Joint Committee hearing on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions on Monday, where VeryDarkMan clarified his stance.
In his statement, VeryDarkMan admitted that he did not believe Falana was involved in the allegations made by Bobrisky, who had claimed that certain legal figures helped him evade a jail term. “Apparently now, some people are taking advantage of what is going to target Femi Falana,” VeryDarkMan said, adding, “I refuse to believe that he is a party to something like that.”
This comes after a leaked audio recording allegedly featuring Bobrisky surfaced online, sparking controversy. Bobrisky claimed that his “godfather” had intervened to prevent him from serving a six-month jail sentence at Kirikiri Prison.
Meanwhile, Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has launched an independent investigative panel to probe the bribery allegations involving Bobrisky and Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) staff. The panel, chaired by Permanent Secretary Dr. Magdalena Ajani, is tasked with investigating allegations of corruption and inmate mistreatment within the correctional system.
The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency, stating, “Nobody, no matter how highly placed, will be shielded.” The panel is expected to submit its findings within two weeks.
