Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has assured that justice will be served following the brutal killings of innocent travelers in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area. He revealed that 14 suspects have been arrested and transferred to Abuja for further interrogation.
The victims, identified as hunters traveling from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Kano State for Sallah celebrations, were attacked and killed by a mob last Thursday. The tragic incident has sparked nationwide outrage, prompting swift action from security agencies and top government officials.
During a condolence visit to Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin in Abuja on Monday, Okpebholo condemned the attack, describing it as “unfortunate and unacceptable.”
“So far, they have arrested 14 suspects. They are being moved to Abuja for interrogation,” he confirmed.
The governor also announced the formation of a special committee to provide support to the families of the deceased.
Senator Barau praised the swift response and urged authorities to ensure that those responsible face the full wrath of the law.
“This barbaric act must not go unpunished,” he stated. “Justice must prevail to maintain peace and unity in our nation.”
Okpebholo is also set to meet with the Kano State governor to discuss further measures in addressing the tragedy. Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been briefed on the situation and has reportedly expressed strong concern.
