The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) has issued a statement clarifying that renowned musician Burna Boy did not cover all medical bills for patients during his recent visit to the hospital, contrary to earlier reports.

According to UPTH’s spokesperson, Mrs. Elabha Meni, Burna Boy’s generosity was focused on select patients, and the hospital did not receive direct payments from the musician or his team to support this initiative.

In a statement released in Port Harcourt on Friday, Meni commended Burna Boy’s kindness in financially assisting those in need, stating, “We commend Burna Boy’s kindness in financially assisting select patients in our hospital to offset their bills during his visit on June 11.”

However, Meni emphasized that the reports of Burna Boy covering all patient bills were inaccurate, stating, “However, contrary to reports stating that all patient’s bills in UPTH were paid during the visit, only selected patients received cash gifts or donations.”

The clarification has shed light on the extent of Burna Boy’s generosity during his visit to UPTH, highlighting the importance of accuracy in reporting. While Burna Boy’s charitable act is commendable, the hospital’s statement emphasizes that the gesture was targeted towards specific patients rather than a blanket coverage of all medical bills.

This development comes as Burna Boy was recently recognized as Africa’s No. 1 earning artiste in the US from tours and concerts, a testament to his success in the music industry.

The news has sparked a conversation on the importance of accuracy in reporting and the impact of celebrity philanthropy on healthcare systems.
