A United Airlines flight UA613 bound for Washington, D.C., from Lagos was forced to return to Lagos shortly after departure on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, due to a medical emergency involving a passenger on board.

The flight departed Lagos at approximately 12:10 a.m. and was over 90 minutes into the journey when the captain made an urgent call for medical personnel onboard to assist the ailing passenger. Soon after, the captain announced that the flight would return to Lagos to prioritize the passenger’s safety.

The aircraft safely landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, around 2:26 a.m., where medical teams were ready to provide urgent care. The affected passenger was promptly taken off the plane for further medical attention.

Following the incident, United Airlines cancelled the flight. Passengers were disembarked and arrangements were made for their accommodation at a hotel pending further travel plans.

This event highlights the airline’s commitment to passenger safety by taking swift and responsible action during an in-flight medical emergency.
