UK authorities have arrested more than 1,000 individuals in connection with the recent riots that erupted across England and Northern Ireland. The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) announced on Tuesday that at least 575 of these individuals have been charged, as courts swiftly process those involved in the violent disorder.

The riots, which spanned multiple towns and cities, were triggered by the fatal stabbing of three girls on July 29. Misinformation about the identity of the alleged perpetrator led to a surge of far-right violence, with several people recently jailed for spreading hate online.

“Forces across the country have now made more than 1,000 arrests in connection with the recent violent disorder,” the NPCC confirmed in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).

Among those appearing in court was a 13-year-old girl who admitted to threatening violence outside an asylum seeker accommodation in Aldershot, southern England. Additionally, John Honey, one of the rioters, pleaded guilty to charges of burglary, looting, and assaulting police officers during the unrest in Hull, northeast England. Honey was also accused of helping attack a car carrying three Romanian men.

As order is restored, the UK government has vowed to take a hardline stance against those involved in the riots. Meanwhile, the judiciary continues to hand down significant sentences, aiming to deter future incidents.

“The government will not tolerate such lawlessness,” an official spokesperson stated, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining public order.
