The British High Commission in Nigeria has dismissed circulating rumors about new visa restrictions for Nigerian applicants, clarifying that no changes have been made to the existing immigration rules.

In an official statement released Wednesday, the Commission addressed growing concerns on social media about alleged tightened entry requirements. It emphasized that while the UK immigration system undergoes regular reviews to balance legal migration and prevent abuse, no blanket bans or restrictions have been imposed on Nigerian travelers.

“We maintain strong people-to-people ties between the UK and Nigeria,” the statement read. “Our immigration policies aim to facilitate legitimate travel while deterring abuse of the system. Reports suggesting otherwise are unfounded.”

The clarification comes amid heightened speculation online, with some Nigerians expressing anxiety over potential visa hurdles. The British High Commission urged applicants to disregard unverified claims and directed those with concerns to contact its Press and Public Affairs team for accurate information.

UK-Nigeria migration relations remain active, with thousands of Nigerians granted visas annually for study, business, and tourism. The Commission reiterated its commitment to working with Nigerian authorities to address irregular migration challenges while preserving lawful mobility between both nations.

Immigration analysts suggest the rumors may have stemmed from broader UK policy debates on migration management, though no Nigeria-specific changes have been implemented. Prospective travelers are advised to consult official UK government channels for updates.
