The UK Civil Aviation Authority has reported Air Peace to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) over alleged safety violations during its operations at Gatwick Airport in London. The NCAA has written to Air Peace to clarify the issues raised, which include non-compliance with some safety regulations.
According to NCAA spokesman Michael Achimugu, the safety concerns were raised during a ramp inspection by the UKCAA. Two mandatory occurrence reports were sent to the UKCAA, which forwarded the complaints to the NCAA. Achimugu stressed that the complaints fell under less serious categories of violations and not the Level 1 category, which is for serious safety non-compliance.
Air Peace spokesman Stanley Olisa said the airline would officially respond to the complaints. The NCAA has communicated the complaints to Air Peace, and an investigation is ongoing. The issues do not affect Air Peace’s ability to operate at Gatwick Airport.
This development comes after Air Peace began direct flight operations from Lagos to Gatwick Airport in London on March 30, 2024, and received approval to add Abuja to its London route on April 25, 2024. The airline’s entrance into the London route has sparked a price war, with foreign carriers reducing prices to stay competitive.
