South African music sensation Tyla has made history by breaking Beyoncé’s record for the most-streamed album by a Black female artist released in 2024. Tyla’s self-titled debut album garnered an impressive 1.565 billion streams on Spotify, surpassing Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, which achieved 1.564 billion streams.

This milestone also marks Tyla’s debut project as the most-streamed album by a female African artist of all time, further solidifying her impact on the global music scene.

The album’s lead single, Water, played a significant role in this achievement. With nearly a billion streams on Spotify, the song became a global anthem and won the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Awards. This success has propelled Tyla into international stardom and established her as a dominant force in African music.

Despite her groundbreaking success, Tyla’s album and its deluxe version were notably absent from the recently announced 67th Grammy nominations. However, this omission did not overshadow her record-breaking year. Tyla remains the most awarded African artist of 2024, with 20 prestigious honors, including a Grammy Award, three MTV European Music Awards, two BET Awards, an MTV Video Music Award, and several South African accolades.

Her accomplishments this year reflect not only her immense talent but also her rising influence in the global music industry. Tyla’s ability to resonate with audiences worldwide while staying true to her African roots has set her apart as a trailblazer. Even without additional Grammy recognition, her contributions to the music industry have already left an indelible mark, promising a bright future for the young star.
