A two-storey building has collapsed in the Isale Eko area of Lagos State, Nigeria sparking fear and alarm among residents. The structure, alleged to have been defective, reportedly has many people trapped inside.
The integrity of the building had been compromised following a recent fire in parts of Dosunmu Market on Lagos Island. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the incident and noted that 14 other buildings were seriously impacted by the fire.
In April, four buildings collapsed due to the intensity of a fire that engulfed part of Dosunmu Market on Lagos Island. Emergency responders on the scene include NEMA, Federal and State Fire Services, the Nigeria Police, and the Nigeria Ports Authority fire service.
Efforts are underway to rescue those trapped and ensure the safety of surrounding structures.
