The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two principal suspects in connection with the brutal murder and burning of a young woman on May 24, 2025, in the Gangare area near the canal behind Mile 12 Market, Lagos.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the victim, a native of Nasarawa State, was attacked and set ablaze in a premeditated act allegedly orchestrated by her estranged boyfriend and accomplices. The police clarified that the killing was not related to blasphemy, dispelling widespread rumors.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was residing in the slum with her northern relatives. The dispute between her and her boyfriend, who is currently at large, stemmed from his attempts to forcefully rekindle their relationship after a breakup. When she refused, the boyfriend conspired with others, including the two suspects now in custody, to carry out the attack.
The suspects are presently held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), assisting police efforts to apprehend the boyfriend and other accomplices still at large.
The police condemned the act as a cold-blooded, premeditated murder and urged the public to remain calm, assuring that normalcy has been restored in the area.
