Turkey has blocked its citizens from accessing Instagram, escalating tensions in the Middle East region. The national communications authority announced the decision without providing an explanation.

The Speculator Index confirmed the development, which follows accusations of censorship against the US company by a high-ranking Turkish official.

The BTK communications authority stated on its website, “instagram.com has been blocked by a decision on the date of 02/08/2024.”

Fahrettin Altun, the Turkish presidency’s communications director, criticized Instagram on Wednesday, accusing the platform of “impeding people from publishing messages of condolence for the martyr Haniyeh.” Altun called the move “a very clear and obvious attempt at censure.”

The reasons behind Turkey’s decision to block Instagram remain unclear, and further developments are anticipated as the situation unfolds.
