Republican candidate Donald Trump has chosen Ohio senator JD Vance as his vice-presidential running mate for the 2024 US elections. Trump announced the decision on his social media platform, Truth Social, emphasizing Vance’s impressive background and dedication to American workers and farmers.

Trump wrote, “After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator JD Vance of the Great State of Ohio.”

Vance, known for his bestselling memoir “Hillbilly Elegy,” has a history of critical comments about Trump but has since become a loyal supporter, receiving Trump’s endorsement in the 2022 Ohio Senate race. Despite a CNN/SSRS poll indicating low voter familiarity with Vance, he starts the campaign with a strong endorsement from Trump.
