Donald Trump announced the formation of a new government efficiency task force on Tuesday, appointing Tesla CEO Elon Musk to lead the initiative aimed at reducing federal waste.

Musk, a prominent backer of Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign, has reportedly spent over $100 million in support of the Republican candidate. In addition to Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur and author, is also expected to play a key role in the new initiative.

The efficiency task force is tasked with streamlining federal government operations, focusing on reducing inefficiencies and curbing wasteful spending. Musk, who has a proven track record in high-efficiency business operations with his companies Tesla and SpaceX, is expected to bring a data-driven and results-oriented approach to the task. Musk’s involvement is part of a broader strategy to integrate private sector expertise into government operations, reflecting the increasing overlap between Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and Republican leadership.

This move marks a deepening of Musk’s political involvement, as he continues to leverage his public profile and business acumen to influence government reform.

His active support during the election, including public endorsements on X (formerly Twitter), underscores the strong relationship between the billionaire and the incoming administration.

The task force will include a diverse group of experts from both the public and private sectors to help identify and eliminate wasteful spending across government programs.
