The Nigerian Army recently reported the successful arrest of a notorious terrorist leader, Abubakar Ibrahim, also known as Habu Dogo, in an ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operation.

Dogo, who was apprehended in Rumji Village, Illela Local Government Area, Sokoto State, has been on the watch list of security agencies in both Nigeria and Niger Republic due to his involvement in cross-border terrorist activities.

According to a statement from Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the arrest of Dogo marks a significant step forward in the fight against terrorism in the region. “This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to degrade terrorist combat capacities across the country,” Buba stated.

Alongside Dogo’s arrest, troops in the South East apprehended seven key commanders and operatives of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN). Among those captured were Dr. Nnamdi Chukwudoze and Chigozie Ezetoha, arrested in Ihiala Local Government Area, Anambra State. Others included Ifeanyi Eze, Augustine Udemba, and Onyedikachi Udemba, who were detained in Umunneochi, Abia State.

During this period, troops neutralized 187 insurgents, detained 262 suspects, and rescued 147 kidnapped hostages. In a separate operation, they thwarted an estimated N1.2 billion crude oil theft in the South-South region, dismantling 98 illegal refining sites and destroying over a million liters of stolen crude oil.

Additionally, security forces recovered a substantial arsenal, including 205 assorted weapons and over 5,000 rounds of ammunition.
