A three-man panel of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) in Abuja has ordered Multichoice Nigeria to grant DStv and GOtv subscribers a free month of subscription.
Additionally, the tribunal, led by Justice Thomas Okosu, fined Multichoice N150 million for defying an earlier order and challenging the court’s jurisdiction.
In May, Multichoice Nigeria raised the prices of its DStv and GOtv packages despite a tribunal order restraining the increase. The CCPT had previously ruled to prevent Multichoice from implementing the price hike, which was slated to take effect on May 1.
